Overview

The brief

Chaikaari is a family-run South Indian vegetarian kitchen with a warm, considered brand — deep maroon, burnished gold, and an editorial serif identity that reflects the care in their cooking. Ammu, a developer by background, was busy with other aspects of the business, leaving little time for design. She didn't want someone posting on her behalf; she wanted a template system she could own and use independently: a cover slide, an interior content slide, and a follow-us call-to-action slide, all faithful to her existing brand.

That distinction shaped everything. This wasn't a content project — it was a capability handover. The goal was for Chaikaari to publish polished, on-brand carousels for years without needing a designer on call.

Process

The approach

Grounded in the brand that already existed

Rather than inventing a new look, I studied chaikaari.com.au and built the templates around what was already working: the serif-with-italic-accents heading style (matched with Playfair Display), the three brand colours the client supplied, and the sensory identity of the kitchen itself — a chai-steam motif and kolam-inspired dot details that nod to South Indian rice-flour patterns without becoming pastiche.

A system, not three static pages

The templates were designed as a matched set: maroon “bookend” slides for the cover and CTA to stop the scroll and close with brand impact, and a light interior slide built for readability, with the interior layout designed to be duplicated for carousels of any length. A consistent footer signature — hairline rule, brand mark, website and handle — quietly brands every slide without crowding the content, exactly as the client requested.

Designed for a technical client

Because Ammu is a developer, every deliverable was produced in formats she can work with directly: hand-editable SVG masters with colours and type declared inline, Canva-ready import PDFs that convert to fully editable designs, and outlined vector PDFs plus EPS files for any Adobe workflow — no font installs, no missing-asset warnings, no dependency on me.

Deliverables

What was delivered

Three Template Variations

A brand-palette version, a photo-led version with proportioned image zones, and a warm-neutral alternative — giving Chaikaari a text-led, an image-led, and a backup direction from one engagement.

Documented Design System

A written spec covering colour tokens, the full type scale, spacing, footer anatomy and rebuild notes — so the templates can be extended or handed to any future designer without loss of consistency.

Brand Element Library

The signature steam motif, badge, photo glyph, swipe cue, kolam dots and rule as individual transparent assets — in all three brand colourways, in SVG, high-resolution PNG, PDF and EPS — ready for use across social, menus, signage or web.

Canva Integration

Templates imported into the client's Canva account with editable text, the brand's cup logo uploaded as a reusable asset and positioned across the designs, and a clear finishing checklist for the steps Canva reserves for the account owner.

Adobe-Compatible Vector Masters

Live-text and fully outlined versions of every template and element — for professional print or design use down the track. No font installs, no missing-asset warnings, no dependency on a designer.

Outcomes

The value

Independence instead of dependency

Chaikaari now owns a repeatable design capability, not a folder of finished posts. Every future carousel starts at 90% done — the team drops in words and photos, and the brand does the rest.

Consistency that compounds

With typography, colour, spacing and branding locked into the system, every post Chaikaari publishes reinforces the same identity customers see on the website and in the kitchen — the quiet work that builds recognition over time.

Assets that outlive the project

The element library and vector masters mean the same brand language can extend to menus, packaging, signage and future campaigns without re-commissioning the basics.

A handover built around the client's strengths

Delivering developer-friendly formats and documented tokens respected how this particular client actually works — the difference between a deliverable and a system someone will genuinely use.
